At the Association for Manufacturing Excellence 2001 Annual Conference, Jill Austin, VP of Global Marketing for Nortel Networks and Mary Ann Kipp delivered the program "Building Networks of Discovery: A Formula for Innovation." This workshop focused on creating linkages between members of a value chain for high impact change. Engaging the value chain leverages all parts of a broader, more dynamic system. In the words of one participant, Steve Nickell of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, “We’ve realized over time that it’s the vendor all the way through to product delivery. It’s not just manufacturing, or not just materials or engineering, it is how you (capture...) the whole chain.”
